McMurdo Fastfind 220 PLB, COSPAS-SARSAT Personal Location Beacon, 406 MHz & 121.5 MHz with integrated 50-channel GPS receiver.
406 MHz PLBs operate with polar orbiting satellites. This ensures worldwide coverage. The system has an average alert time of approximately 45 minutes, depending on when the satellites are visible on the horizon.
The satellite can locate the position of the Fastfind PLB within a radius of 5 km (3 nm), and the integrated GPS determines the position to within a few metres.
Personal registration To ensure that the rescue chain functions smoothly, it is essential that the owner or purchaser of a PLB registers with the HEX code on the following website: www.406registration.com
The coded message from the McMurdo Fastfind 220 PLB contains a unique code that can be assigned to the name of the owner or the name of the person making the registration.
Fastfind PLBs also have a second emergency transmitter. This transmits on 121.5 MHz and is used for precise direction finding. When rescue teams get close to the distress beacon, these signals can be detected and located.
